Our FX TDs are responsible for creating a variety of 3D Effects for a very broad range of content. Primarily TV & Experiential Advertising.

Primary Responsibilities:Execute FX tasks using off-the-shelf tools and MPC proprietary software
Assist with developing the look of a sequence with the supervision team
Maintain department’s best working practice in FX
Explore and recommend new FX techniques and software
Organise and attend client meetings, with the ability to lead discussions
Be creative and proactive in executing and assisting all shots in a sequence
Evaluate the department’s FX workflow and pipeline

Experience and Skills:
Proven and demonstrable experience in high-end CG
In-depth knowledge of FX techniques, workflow and software
Thorough understanding of most CG techniques and technologies
Proactive in picking up proprietary FX tools
Excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR - FX

Designs, creates and animates digital effects elements and methodology for computer generated FX animation. Typically creates elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques that reflect physical dynamics of natural phenomena (e.g., fire, smoke, water, bubbles, lava, dust, etc.) to create a believable world for the story. Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets to ensure show/ client deadlines are met. Artists must be able to develop solutions and techniques that meet art/ technical direction. Participate in dailies, rounds, team reviews of work in progress. Interact with production, supervisors and team/ peers in order to problem solve and share information related to show/ assigned tasks. Must be able to decipher as well as follow through on shot turnovers, dailies, briefings/ notes and feedback. Successful candidates should be able to work efficiently as part of a team or independently to determine the various design solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to create multiple types of digital effects from simple to moderately difficult. Knowledge of applicable software packages including Houdini and Maya required. Knowledge of Renderman shading, volume rendering and ray tracing experience preferred. Linux and scripting ability in relevant languages including MEL, Perl and Python. Minimum requirement of 2-5+ years production experience or feature film experience preferred.

Overall Job Purpose


Framestore in LA is looking for Mid-Senior Lighting/Generalist TD's with both photo-real and creative aptitudes for our commercials team. We're looking for candidates that can take a project from start to finish while being involved creatively with the team, directors and clients. You'll need the ability to think on your feet, and to react quickly to changing parameters. You'll have a full understanding every aspect of the CG process, and be skilled in multiple disciplines.

Responsibilities


• In depth knowledge & experience of one or more: Maya / Houdini / XSI.

• In depth knowledge & experience of one or more: MentalRay / RenderMan / Arnold / Mantra. Other renderers a plus

• Strong Lighting/Shading ability in multiple disciplines - env/organic/mechanical/creature/fx

• Mel / Python Scripting

• Good knowledge/ability in entire CG process - Modeling/Rigging/Texture/LookDev/Dynamics

• Understanding of Pipelines

Montreal - FX TD

With an emphasis on the aesthetics and techniques to create photorealistic effects within nature, FX TDs will take 3D scenes from animators/matchmovers to create FX simulations that meet the specific requirements of a VFX pipeline. 


Responsibilities


Create particle, RigidBody , fluid, cloth, fur & hair simulations.
Apply lighting and shaders to produce the final rendered image or pass the simulations onto a Lighting TD.
Uses an array of commercial and proprietary FX tools.
Works in partnership with modellers, animators, lighters, texture artists & compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard.
Works within the team on a production to determine the various design solutions needed to create the effects.
Designs and creates images, elements, effects, pipelines, tools and techniques for digital visual effects.
Help design solutions where a more procedural approach can be used to help create the effects required.
Produces test and often final renders of all FX elements for a shot.
Creates working quick-comps for review by the supervision team.

Essential


Excellent Houdini and/or Maya
Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to FX simulation / animation.
Experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosion, also simulation techniques for RBD, cloth and hair.
Working knowledge of Renderman or Arnold preferred
Good understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting to modelling and texturing, animation, rendering and compositing.
Familiar with pipeline issues especially working between multiple packages.
Working knowledge of at least one compositing application (Shake, Nuke, Halo, etc) and a solid understanding of the compositing process.
Should have strong Vex/hscript/Mel scripting skills.

Desirable


Knowledge in other simulation packages such as Naiad
Programming skills with C/C++ also an advantage along with knowledge of the Houdini HDK and Maya API.
Python and Unix shell scripting also advantageous.
Experience with other render packages
